About Us
Ribeira Grande High School is located on the island of São Miguel, in the Azores archipelago, a region characterized by great natural and environmental wealth. The school offers a comprehensive education, from elementary through high school, and supports students in their transition to both the workforce and higher education. Its educational program incorporates essential elements such as health, sports, and, above all, environmental sustainability, in line with the unique characteristics of its island setting.
A participant in the international Eco-Schools program since 2007, the school has developed numerous initiatives to protect the environment: waste management, energy conservation, organic gardens, and raising awareness about climate change and biodiversity. These initiatives, led by teachers and students, have earned the school the Eco-Schools label. However, in an island context particularly vulnerable to climate change, the school seeks to strengthen and expand these practices to all students, in order to make environmental education more accessible, dynamic, and engaging.
