WHAT WE DO

Our Project

In the face of the climate emergency, it is essential to help young people better understand environmental issues and take concrete steps toward sustainable action. However, a gap remains between awareness and the ability to act. Schools often lack the appropriate tools to address these topics in an interactive and engaging way.
The Great Expectations : Empowering Youth for Climate Action project addresses this need by offering innovative educational solutions, particularly focusing on the connection between the oceans and the climate.

Great Expectations..

The Great Expectations: Empowering Youth for Climate Action project aims to equip young people with digital, scientific, and civic skills so they can actively engage in climate action. Through innovative educational approaches, the project promotes climate literacy, digital advocacy, and youth volunteering.
Its goal is to train at least 500 students, teachers, and youth leaders to become climate advocates, while promoting sustainability and active citizenship across Europe

Objectives

Objectives.jpg

The project aims to

Develop young people’s digital, scientific, and civic skills

Raise awareness of the relationship between marine life and climate change

Encourage young people’s active engagement in environmental initiatives

Train teachers and educators in innovative teaching methods

Strengthen cooperation between schools, NGOs, and universities at the European level

MAIN THEMES

The project is structured around several main themes:

  • Digital skills and creativity : producing digital content for climate advocacy;

  • Oceans and climate : understanding the interactions between marine ecosystems and climate change;

  • Active citizenship: engaging young people in local and European initiatives;

  • Dissemination and communication: promoting the project’s results and raising public awareness.

PROJECT IMPACT

Through its activities, the project aims to :

  • Train several hundred young people and teachers;

  • Strengthen civic and environmental engagement;

  • Improve teaching practices related to sustainable development;

  • Promote European cooperation and the sharing of best practices;

  • Create a lasting impact beyond the project’s duration.

SHAPING ENGAGED CITIZENS AT LOCAL AND EUROPEAN LEVEL

Beyond education, GEEP encourages young people to become active citizens through volunteering, collaboration with NGOs and the creation of a European Youth Climate Action Network. Students are invited to take action both locally, within their own communities, and collectively, at European level

CREATIVITY AND DIGITAL SKILLS FOR CLIMATE ACTION

Through the project, students and teachers explore innovative tools such as 3D modelling,

animation, photography, video production and collaborative digital platforms. These skills empower

young people to create their own climate awareness and advocacy content, transforming learning into action.

This creative approach fosters engagement, critical thinking and meaningful expression around

issues that directly affect their island and their future.

OCEANS AND CLIMATE : A KEY THEME FOR ISLAND TERRITORIES

One of the project’s main outcomes is the development of an Open Educational Resource (OER) entitled “Marine Life and Climate Change”. For an island like La Réunion, where the ocean plays a central role in environmental, economic and cultural life, this focus is particularly relevant.

Understanding marine ecosystems and their role in mitigating climate change helps students better grasp the challenges facing their island today and in the years to come.

EXPECTED OUTCOMES

The project aims to create several practical resources:

  • An online platform featuring tools, educational materials, and best practices;

  • A MOOC on marine life and climate change;

White Structure

Erasmus+ Priorities

The project is fully aligned with the priorities of the Erasmus+ program by addressing several key challenges

Inclusion and diversity

It aims to engage young people from diverse backgrounds, particularly those with fewer opportunities, to empower them to express themselves and take action on environmental challenges.

Digital transformation

The project develops participants’ digital skills through content creation (video, animation, immersive tools), enabling them to use digital technology creatively, critically, and responsibly.

Environment and the fight against climate change

At the heart of the project, this priority involves actively raising awareness of climate issues—particularly the role of the oceans—and implementing concrete actions to promote sustainable development.
